The Power of Group Learning

Powerful-group-learning1.jpgIf there’s one thing I’m a big advocate for, it’s group learning—both consuming it and offering it to your clients.

So while you may think that the one-on-one structure would, of course, be more powerful than a group program, when you actually take a look at the many tangible and intangible benefits of group learning, you’ll find that there’s a lot more available than you can see at first glance.

Here are just a few of those many benefits, and why you might consider offering group learning experiences to your clients as well as consuming them yourself.

Why You Want to Offer Group Learning:

  1. You can help a lot more people.
Let’s face it, there’s a limit to how many people you can serve one at a time, while group learning enables you to help hundreds. Having had the privilege of ushering nearly 500 members through our Sales, Authenticity & Success (SASSY) Mastermind, I have facilitated, and been in awe of, the amazing breakthroughs that happen for everyone. And the part I love most is how many of the biggest breakthroughs and quantum leaps happen from interactions among our members. We lift each other up in ways that are almost…magical!
  2. You can make a lot more money.
This makes sense, right? There are only so many hours in a day that you can work one-on-one with someone, whereas your time in a group program is leveraged. And a lot of people falsely believe that they should charge less for their group program and more for their one-on-one service. While this is certainly true in some cases, don’t jump to this conclusion too quickly. If you package and deliver your group program in a way that maximizes the experience for everyone, it could actually be worth more than your one-on-one coaching or service. How’s that for mind expanding?
  3. It causes you to organize your knowledge.
When you’re working with one person at a time, you can certainly follow their needs and goals, but when you teach a group, you really need some kind of lesson plan, organized steps that you’re going to follow. So teaching a group causes you to continuously organize your knowledge and hone your process, which we call your Unique Branded System. This helps your clients stay on track with a pre-planned go-forward plan, instead of getting stuck in the same place, which can happen in more secluded learning environments.

Why You Want to Learn Through a Group:

  1. You often learn more than you would have one-on-one.
In a group learning setting, people ask questions that you never would have considered. So you end up learning as much from the other students as you do from the teacher.
  2. You get the power of the collective brain.
There’s a third brain that emerges in a group that Napoleon Hill called the “Master Mind,” where the sum of the whole is greater than its parts. That’s why the greatest problems of the world are tackled by “think tanks.”
  3. You get the many benefits of community.
There are a lot of what Dan Sullivan calls “strategic byproducts,” of the community and support of group learning. That means you end up with amazing opportunities and ideas that you never could have predicted. For instance, my own biggest breakthroughs have happened in group learning environments. I find that there’s always the reason I signed up, and then there’s what I actually get from being in the group, and I wouldn’t give up those strategic byproducts for anything!
